MAX3172X Low-Power Temperature Sensors

MAX3172XThe new MAX3172X temperature sensors from Maxim provide temperature sensing over either an SPI or a 3-wire interface. No additional components are required -- these are true temperature-to-digital converters, which is a handy function for certain applications.

The sensor resolution can be adjusted from 9 to 12 bits, and the devices also feature a thermostat function that offers two operating modes -- comparator or interrupt -- that signal thermostat fucntions based on user-defined nonvolatile trip points (THIGH and TLOW).

The devices operate from a 1.7V to 3.7V supply voltage. The operating range is -55°C to +125°C.

The MAX31722 operates at ±2°C accuracy, while the MAX31723 offers ±0.5°C accuracy. Prices start at $0.79 (at 1,000 pieces) and $1.44, respectively. Both are available in an 8-pin µMAX package.
