EdSim51's Guide to the 8051: core of the popular 51 series of 8-bit microcontrollers
The 8051 is at the core of many modern 8-bit microcontroller systems. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to embedded systems concepts, with the 8051 as its centrepiece. It starts by explaining the basics of all microcontrollers, then examines 8051 specifics, including the timers, the serial port, interrupts and peripheral interfacing. Screenshots of the EdSim51 simulator (freely available from www.edsim51.com) are used throughout the text to show the microcontroller in action. The simulator is an ideal companion to this book as it will aid the student gain a clear understanding of embedded systems in general and of the 8051 in particular. The book contains many example programs, written in assembly. Finally, the reader is introduced to C programming for the 8051.

Great Book/Simulator Combo- A Must BUY!!!

Greetings!!!
The EdSim51's guide to the 8051 is a great book for the student and intermediate programmer. The functions and routines of a 8051 micro are well presented and expanded in a step by step format in a way that advanced programming books tend to pass by. This book falls into a unique category, enhancing beginner and intermediate learning. It is easy to read and it is laid out so the reader can see how the micro functions as it runs through a routine. Interfacing, example routines and communications are covered as well. A free EDSim51's Simulator download ([....]) compliments the book and is a must see for all. It has a functional ADC, display, port status/bits, keypad, DAC, LED, MOTOR, switch banks, comparator and UART functions/icons that can be operated and customized to test your program subroutines. All the registers and memory are displayed so you can see the status of each as your routine runs. The simulator can be single stepped or run in 1 thru 50000 steps per unit time. The accumulated instruction time is displayed to show how long it takes for your program to execute. Nothing else is needed. The book and the simulator are a great bargain and an invaluable tool in my opinion. You will not be disappointed! ....it's what you have been looking for!!!
