Switch-Mode Power Supplies Spice Simulations and Practical Designs
Harness Powerful SPICE Simulation and Design Tools to Develop Cutting-Edge Switch-Mode Power Supplies
Switch-Mode Power Supplies: SPICE Simulations and Practical Designs is a comprehensive resource on using SPICE as a power conversion design companion. This book uniquely bridges analysis and market reality to teach the development and marketing of state-of-the art switching converters. Invaluable to both the graduating student and the experienced design engineer, this guide explains how to derive founding equations of the most popular converters…design safe, reliable converters through numerous practical examples…and utilize SPICE simulations to virtually breadboard a converter on the PC before using the soldering iron.
Filled with more than 600 illustrations, Switch-Mode Power Supplies: SPICE Simulations and Practical Designs enables you to:
- Derive founding equations of popular converters
- Understand and implement loop control via the book-exclusive small-signal models
- Design safe, reliable converters through practical examples
- Use SPICE simulations to virtually breadboard a converter on the PC
- Access design spreadsheets and simulation templates on the accompanying CD-ROM, with numerous examples running on OrCADË, ICAPSË, µCapË, TINAË, and more

Intuitive way to understand SMPS

Mr. Basso has done a remarkable job in this book of taking what is presented elsewhere as a very complicated subject and has broken it down for easy understanding. For example, his method of PWM-switch averaging is much simpler than other techniques, such as state-space averaging (which is also introduced in this book), and it makes it easy for designers who are used to SPICE to easily reproduce his examples. The book has great depth, and it has "easy to read" text to make sense of all the equations. There are also many "Practical Examples", which are easy to follow and guide you on how to design a SMPS from the ground up, which I found to be very helpful.
Highly recommended, this book should be in every SMPS designer's library.
Special thanks to Mr. Basso for putting this together.Must have reference for the Power Design Engineer

This book worth every penny and much more. There is nothing but pure practical applications that allow you to model almost any switch mode converter used. I would rank it as MUST buy book for every engineer involved in the design or evaluation of switch mode power.
Industry has needed a book like this that explores and resolves the circuits that we are using today. The book is full of the spice models already developed for you. It explores and gives many hints on how to get around PSPICE nuances. This book and Erickson's book are the two books every power guy should keep within arm's reach.
Merci beaucoup Monsieur BassoSwitched mode power supplies

Mr. Basso has done a wonderful job in writting this book. Many times to get all the import information on the design of Switch mode power supplies one needs to read numerous articles/books. Mr. Basso has managed to gather all important information and put it in one book. The book has all the relevant equations showing all derivations. It also has numerous design examples step by step. Mr. Basso uses SPICE or the many versions of it as a tool to prove out the design. A CDROM comes with the book which inlcudes library SPICE files of completed designs along with subckts so the reader can learn to use the SPICE tools. Very good book and my main book for designing Switch mode power supplies.

Book review for Switch Mode Power Supplies

The author Christophe Basso is one of the well respected power supply designers. The book is well written and goes into very detailed description of basic converter topologies, small signal modeling and feedback loop compensation. The models are useful in analysis and all of them are well tested. I would recommend this book for power supply designers who are interested in modeling and analysis of switch mode power supplies.
